I find this to be a decent picture frame. Recognized my Sony USB flash drive and went into slideshow mode a few seconds after plugging it into the frame with no problem. Initially, I thought the picture quality was horrible, but upon further investigation, found the default settings for sharpness and saturation were at 0% - once I went into settings and increased them, the picture quality improved to a point that I am content with the quality. No, it's not the best resolution, but good enough to enjoy the memories and not be obsessed with pixelation. Pictures not the standard size have a tendency to get cropped. The smaller images have all gotten centered. You can adjust the length of time pictures stays on screen during slideshow. You can also listen to music at the same time you view the slideshow (if you have audio files loaded onto the same drive as the pictures, the music will start playing automatically). This is where the frame starts having trouble - it seems it's having a hard time processing all the activity at once. When I viewed slideshow with music together, often the audio track would skip or sound staticky and/or the frame would black out for a couple of seconds. There is a way to turn music off/pause while viewing slideshows, so you don't have to listen to it all day since the playlist repeats. There is glare to the screen depending on from which angle you view the frame. The best angle to view it from is either directly in front or slightly above the frame. You can use the frame as a music player, or a wall clock with calendar while not viewing pictures. The volume can be adjusted to a comfortable level. The frame also has an alarm feature - which automatically uses the highest volume setting regardless of where you have the volume set for music, so watch out! The alarm sound, in case you're interested, is a deep bell tone, followed by "cuckoo" (repeat). One thing I wish the frame had was a way to control which folders on your flash/memory drive the frame will go into to pull pictures from. As it is, it'll pull from every folder there is, so if you have a folder with pictures for an office document along with the family pictures, you have just a good a chance at watching charts and graphs go by as your family members. This means, your card you use for this frame has to be solely dedicated to pictures you want on the frame unless you don't mind the other stuff popping up.
The most difficult part is remembering which buttons to press to get to the right menu screens you need to change settings! You'll probably need to do some digging around in the manual to understand how to do everything you want. Once you get everything set and forget about it for a couple months, you'll come back to the frame and realize you need to learn how to work it all over again, so keep your manual handy. This frame might drive the nitpickers crazy, but I just let it go in the background and forget about the little blips for the most part while I'm doing other tasks. If you can do the same, it's not a bad frame.

I've been on the market for picture frame after purchasing an affordable kodak picture frame for my girlfriend. I decided our apartment was not going to be like my aunt's where there is a family picture lining every wall in the home. I wanted something that could look good even turned off. This is it. Of course Sony brings their aesthetic talents to create sophisticated beautiful looking frame. The picture frame is solid glossy black and the Sony logo glows bright white when turned on. You also have the option of turning off the logo if it cramps your style. The picture quality is crystal clear, bright and sharp even on my old scanned photos. The viewing options are plentiful and fade in and out flawlessly kind of drawing you in the show. I love the calender and clock settings which gives this frame a practical use. You can choose only the calendar, only the clock or both with pictures at the same time on a side box.
Now the bad: It not only requires a power cord but the end has a buldge wich made it very hard for me to conceal the power cord on my bookcase. I had to hide the power cord since it would not slip in through the cracks on the back of my bookcase. This also makes it a no go for coffee table. It's very noticible when it's out in the open. Luckily I hid it very well and it's not noticible in my case. The only other bad point is the price. It is quite expensive for picture fram but you can clearly see why. It's so sophisticated looking that it looks expnsive. The lcd looks like it's thick glass and the black frame is glossy. No doubt the materials used were quality materials.
If you have the money, I highly recommend it.

There are several viewing modes to display your images (single, multiple, with clock, with calendar, etc), but the default viewing mode (single frame) seems to look the best to me with the resolution of the screen being so low.
Color reproduction is very good considering the price of the device, but the display tends to oversaturate green and yellow, making them look forced and unnatural. I assume the more expensive models from Sony would not have this problem, but they cost so much more.
Sony indicated that the device has a backlight life of 20,000 hours (before the brightness drops to 50 percent), so you might want to keep the backlight level at around level 5 (the default is 10) and switch the frame off when you're not in the room.
The device also comes with a handy remote control that runs on a single lithium ion battery, so you can control the slideshow and viewing mode without accessing the control buttons on the back of the frame.

Anyway, 2 years ago, I had nothing but problems with the pandigital frames. My computer would not recognize the frame when I synced it via usb. This was quite a common problem for many users if you check past reviews. Pandigital did nothing to resolve the issue other than tell people to exchange the frame. Well, unfortunately the frame was never actually defective - it just had poorly coded software that was inherently incompatible with specific builds of Windows XP. On top of that, no matter how much memory you loaded up in the frame, it would only recognize 2000 pictures; however, it took me a few hours of experimentation before I figured out that was the problem, given NOWHERE in the documentation was there a point about a limitation on the "number" of photos you could use. Anyway.. I digress..
So just the other day, I saw that Pandigital has a new model frame, the Pantouch. It looked almost identical to their last generation of models, which was fine with me. Also, I saw on the box that it could hold up to 6,400 photos. I saw that clearly they had fixed that previous 2000-photo limit, so I decided with much hesitation to purchase this new model.
On the plus side, the frame synched up with my PC just fine, and sure enough I was able to load up my 3,000 pictures onto the frame just fine. But then that's when the problems begun. The frame would start to lock up in mid slide-show. I started taking off photos and found that to keep the frame from locking up, I could only have around 1,000 pictures. I even tried to downsize the file size of the pictures, so that my 3,000 pictures only took up 400MB of space, and put them directly ON the memory of the device (which has 512MB). Still, the stupid thing wouldn't run the slideshow without locking up.
After about 5 hours of trying different types of memory cards, quantities of pictures, and changing file types, I found out the problem: You cannot run a slideshow on more than 1,000 photos in RANDOM-MODE. Yes, if you are having problems with the slideshow locking up, it's because you need to switch OFF the random mode. Apparently the frame has a very slow processor and when it tries to search all of the internal memory for a "random" photo, the process takes too long and the frame just locks up. For some reason I haven't been able to figure out this issue has never been explored... I guess maybe no one has more than 3,000 photos?
Anyway, after fixing that issue, my frame is fully operational. The actual user interface is pretty good compared to other frames. The "pantouch" technology is a complete gimmick. It works, but I found myself just using the remote and on-device buttons to navigate. Also, I really want to know what type of genius product manager decided it would be "appleish" and "trendy" to use a touch-interface on a glass picture frame! It's one thing to have a touch-screen phone, because finger prints aren't much of an issue, but common, who wants finger prints on their glass picture frame?
So in conclusion, I give this frame 3 stars. It loses 1 star because of the shoddy memory and hardware, and the fact that the frame gets cranky once you have over 1,000 photos on it. It loses another star for Pandigital's abysmal customer service, because if this thing dies on you, you won't get getting much help from them!
